Originally called 'Lower Workhouse Field', the Frog Field appears at one time to have been excavated as a source of clay for the adjoining brickworks. Later it was used agriculturally, during which time the pond was dug.

It was sold to Beckley Parish Council with the Jubilee Field in the mid  1970s. However, a number of years passed with little work being done to the field, apart from the dumping of spoil resulting from the making tennis courts in the next field, and the planting of a few trees. As a result this a rough area, largely boggy and it provides a good habitat for birds & small animals.

In 1991 the original Management Plan was drawn up. Since then the WI with the support of the Parish Council & the Sussex Wildlife Trust continue to work to maintain & improve the present habitat within the Frog Field in order to encourage and protect wildlife.
